5 Beautiful Botanical Gardens in Tampa Bay

Spending time at the botanical gardens in Tampa Bay is one of my favorite ways to enjoy Florida’s sunshine in a slower, more peaceful way. Tampa Bay has some truly gorgeous spots filled with tropical plants, quiet walking paths, and those little moments that make you want to take a deep breath and just enjoy where you are. In this post, I’m sharing some of the most beautiful botanical gardens around the area that are perfect for a relaxing afternoon, a photo day, or a quick escape into nature.
Best Botanical Gardens in Tampa Bay
1. University of South Florida Botanical Gardens | Tampa
If you’re into plants, butterflies, and a little bit of learning, the USF Botanical Gardens is the place to be. This 16-acre green oasis isn’t just for students—it’s open to anyone who wants to explore Florida’s native plants, exotic species, and even a butterfly garden that’ll have you feeling like you stepped into a fairytale.
Wander through winding paths and meandering streams, and take in all the botanical beauty—there’s something new to discover around every corner. Heads up, though: they’re closed on Mondays!
Plan your visit Tuesday – Sunday from 9 AM – 4 PM. Admission is just $5, and kids 12 and under get in free!
2. Sunken Gardens | St. Pete
This 100-year-old tropical paradise in St. Pete is a must-see. Sunken Gardens is like stepping into a real-life postcard with cascading waterfalls, flamingos, and over 50,000 tropical plants.
Not only is it stunning, but it’s also packed with history, dating back to its early 20th-century days as a quirky roadside attraction. Whether you’re strolling under towering palms or snapping pics of the vibrant flowers, this place is guaranteed to put you in full relaxation mode.
They are open Monday – Saturday: 10 AM – 4:30 PM and Sunday: 12 PM – 4:30 PM. Admission is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors (62+), and $6 for kids (ages 2-12).
3. Marie Selby Botanical Gardens | Sarasota
If you’re looking for one of the best things to do in Sarasota, look no further than Marie Selby Botanical Gardens! Just about an hour’s drive from Tampa, this coastal oasis is a dream, especially if you love orchids, bromeliads, and all things tropical.
These plants don’t just grow—they float, climb, and drape like nature’s own chandeliers, making the whole place feel magical.
As soon as you step in, you’re greeted by the salty Gulf breeze, fluttering butterflies, and peaceful water features. Every turn leads to an Instagram-worthy moment, whether it’s a bayfront view or one of their ever-changing quirky art installations—like that time they turned the gardens into Salvador Dalí’s surreal world!
It’s open daily from 10 AM – 5 PM. Adult admission is $26.
4. Hollis Gardens | Lakeland
Tucked inside historic Lake Mirror Park in Lakeland, Hollis Garden may only be 1.2 acres, but it packs in over 10,000 flowers, trees, and shrubs in the most picture-perfect way. Think manicured flower beds, fountains, and sculptures—basically, the kind of place where you could get lost in thought or plan a super cute picnic.
It’s closed on Mondays (hours change seasonally, so check before you go!) and is FREE to enter!
While you’re in Lakeland, spend the day exploring some of the best things to do and eating at some of the top Lakeland restaurants. This is one of my favorite day trips from Tampa and I feel like it’s very underrated!
5. Florida Botanical Gardens | Largo
If you love huge, sprawling green spaces, you HAVE to check out Florida Botanical Gardens in Largo. With 182 acres of lush beauty, it’s like Florida threw a garden party and invited every plant imaginable—from tropical fruit trees to butterfly gardens.
One of the best parts? It’s totally FREE! Whether you’re wandering through the children’s trail with little ones, spotting local wildlife, or taking in seasonal light displays, there’s something for everyone. Oh, and leashed pets are welcome too!
