If you’re looking for the best things to do in Dunedin, Florida, prepare to fall a little bit in love! Dunedin is one of my favorite small towns in Tampa Bay because it has that rare mix of walkable downtown charm, Gulf Coast nature, great food, local breweries, cute coffee shops, and an easygoing beach-town energy.
It reminds me of a smaller, slower version of St. Petersburg, but with its own cozy personality. This guide covers my favorite beaches, activities, restaurants, bars, and where to stay so you can plan a full Dunedin day or weekend.

Things to Do in Dunedin, Florida
If You’re Short on Time…
1. Honeymoon Island State Park
Honeymoon Island is one of the easiest ways to add a beach day to your Dunedin plans. It feels more natural and untouched than some of the busier beaches near Tampa, so instead of high-rise hotels and beach bars, you get Gulf views, wildlife, quiet stretches of sand, and that peaceful state park feel.
There’s a dog beach, scenic nature trails, bathhouses, picnic areas, and a cafe, which makes it an easy pick whether you want to fully lounge or mix in a little exploring.
Since state park fees and hours can change, I’d check the current details before you go, especially if you’re visiting around a holiday or after stormy weather.
It’s especially gorgeous around sunset! And if you do my favorite boat tour, a lot of times they’ll offer to take you here!

2. Dunedin Causeway
The Dunedin Causeway is basically a choose-your-own-adventure stretch of waterfront. You’ll see people kayaking, paddleboarding, biking, fishing, jogging, hammocking, and just hanging out by the water. It’s also a great low-pressure stop if you want coastal views without committing to a full beach day.
You can rent kayaks, paddleboards, or sailboats for a quick outing or a longer adventure at Sail Honeymoon Kayak and SUP Rentals right on the Causeway.
If you’re comfortable paddling and conditions are good, this can also be a fun way to work Caladesi Island into your day.
Pro tip: Go earlier in the morning if you can. The water is usually calmer, the heat is more manageable, and you may have a better chance of spotting dolphins.

3. Caladesi Island
If you haven’t noticed yet, a lot of the best things to do in Dunedin involve being outside, and Caladesi Island is one of the prettiest options! It feels like a true little escape, with soft sand, mangroves, shells, and relaxing calm energy.
Getting there is part of the fun. Depending on conditions and what kind of day you want, you can reach Caladesi by private boat, ferry, kayak, paddleboard, or by walking north from Clearwater Beach. The ferry is the easiest choice for most visitors, while paddling makes it feel more like an adventure.
Once you’re there, you can hang on the beach, follow the 3-mile kayak trail through the mangroves, or take the nature trail if you want to explore on land.
Just make sure you bring bug spray, water, and sun protection!

4. Ride the Jolley Trolley
All aboard the Jolley Trolley! If you don’t want to deal with parking or you want to make a carefree day of exploring, the trolley can connect you with spots from Clearwater Beach up toward Tarpon Springs. It’s an especially cute option if you’re turning Dunedin into one stop on a bigger Tampa Bay day trip.
Use the Trolley Tracker before you start waiting at a stop, and double-check the current fares and route schedule before you build your day around it.
5. Get a Taste of Dunedin
Dunedin is such a fun little food town. You can find amazing restaurants for sushi, Mexican, seafood, BBQ, Italian, Hawaiian-inspired bites, pub food, and those “wait, this is in Dunedin?” meals that make you immediately start planning a return trip.
The best part is how walkable everything feels. My favorite way to do Dunedin is to restaurant hop instead of picking just one place: grab a roll at Pisces, an enchilada at Casa Tina, stop for a drink, then keep wandering. It turns lunch or dinner into its own little downtown adventure.
Pro tip: Check hours before you go. Some of the best spots open later in the day or close on slower weekdays.

6. Brewery Hop
Dunedin is one of the best places in Tampa Bay for a low-key brewery hop. There are several great breweries in Dunedin, and they each have their own personality, so it never feels like you’re doing the same stop over and over.
If you’re into craft beer, ask about the Gulp Coast Craft Brewery Passport at your first stop. It’s a fun little bonus if you’re already planning to visit a few breweries, and it gives your crawl a mini scavenger-hunt feel.

7. Dunedin Market
One of my favorite things about Tampa Bay is how many markets we have, and the Dunedin Market is such a cute one to add to your morning. It usually pops up in John R. Lawrence Pioneer Park, right in the heart of downtown, but check the current market calendar before you go.
Expect a mix of fresh produce, local food vendors, handmade goods, gourmet treats, and live music.
I love pairing it with coffee first, then wandering the market before the Florida heat really starts doing the most.

8. A Boat Day
If you’re visiting with a group and want the kind of day everyone talks about afterward, book A Boat Day. You can choose from different private boat options, but the funship with a waterslide is the one that makes the day feel extra memorable.
The charters are private and fit anywhere from 6-10 people. We loved our captain, and not having to navigate the boat ourselves made it so much easier to just enjoy the day.
Depending on your route and the conditions, your day might include island hopping, shelling, dolphin spotting, swimming, or snorkeling.
It’s one of my favorite things to do in Dunedin, and is especially great for a birthday, bachelorette, family trip, or friend weekend!

9. Pinellas Trail
The Pinellas Trail is one of the reasons Dunedin is so fun to explore without a strict plan.
The trail runs through the heart of town, and you’ll find breweries, restaurants, coffee shops, and bike racks close enough to make stopping in and out easy.
🚲Activity Idea🚲
Explore the city on a bike in a small group and discover some of Dunedin’s best landmarks.
Book the tour

10. Visit a Local Cafe
A cute coffee stop is non-negotiable for me in Dunedin. There are several great coffee shops in Dunedin, but two I keep coming back to are Sandpiper Coffee and TuKro Coffee.
Sandpiper has that cozy converted-house feel, and their hazelnut latte is smooth, sweet, and just so good. I love it for a slower morning, especially if you can snag outdoor seating.
TuKro Coffee is cozy and charming with excellent specialty drinks. Their syrups are made from scratch with organic ingredients, and they usually have some fun seasonal latte situation happening.

11. Bar Hop
Dunedin’s bar scene has a little something for every mood, which is exactly why bar hopping here is so fun. Start with HiFi, the rooftop bar at the Fenway Hotel, if you want sunset views, cocktails, and Clearwater Harbor sparkling in the background.
For craft cocktails and a moody lounge feel, head to Sonder Social Club. It has that speakeasy-inspired vibe with dim lighting, shelves of liquor, a sliding library ladder, and hidden bathrooms behind bookshelves.
And if you want something playful, don’t miss Reboot. It’s packed with pinball machines, arcade games, board games, and consoles, so it works for a nightcap or a daytime stop when you want a break from the sun.

12. Visit a Local Distillery
If you want to sip on something locally made, make a stop at Cotherman Distilling Co., one of my favorite distilleries in Tampa Bay. They hand-craft whiskey, vodka, gin, and tropical rums using Florida-grown ingredients, and the whole place has such an easygoing neighborhood feel.
The indoor bar is cozy, the patio is welcoming, and it makes a great Pinellas Trail pit stop if you’re biking around town.
They often have food vendors too, and I still think about the sloppy joe grilled cheese I had there.

13. Make a Candle
For something indoorsy, cute, and different from the usual beach-and-bar itinerary, head to Sea Love Dunedin to make your own candle. You get to mix and match from a huge selection of fragrances, choose a vessel, and create something that actually feels personal.
The process is easy and guided, so you don’t need to be crafty to enjoy it. It’s especially great for a girls’ day, date idea, rainy afternoon, or a little break from walking around downtown!

14. Sample Gourmet Popcorn
Craving a snack? Swing by Harley’s Gourmet Popcorn and Cider Shoppe. It’s a quick, fun stop with flavors ranging from sweet caramel to zesty buffalo wing, plus seasonal options that make it way too easy to leave with more than one bag.
The best part is that you can usually sample before you buy. Some of the flavor combos are surprisingly good, and this is the kind of easy little stop that adds personality to a downtown wander.

Where to Stay in Dunedin, Florida
We always love staying at the Fenway Hotel. The location is such a win: right across from Clearwater Harbor, close enough to walk into downtown, and easy to pair with HiFi rooftop drinks or dinner at HEW.
It’s a Marriott property (book direct here), so if you have points, this can be a great place to use them. Rates vary a lot by season and weekend demand, but the pool, bikes, location, and overall boutique feel make it a stay I’d happily repeat.
On a budget? Check out the Holiday Inn Express downtown. It’s convenient, practical, and the included breakfast is always nice when you’re trying to get out the door for a full day of exploring.
Check out all available options in Dunedin for your dates here. If you’re visiting during spring, holidays, or a big local event, book earlier than you think you need to.
